Nongkhnum River Island is the biggest river island in Meghalaya and the second biggest river island in Asia, after Majuli Island in Assam. It is located at a distance of about 14 Km from the headquarter of the District, Nongstoin and at a distance of about 63 km from Mairang Sub‐Division.

The island has a beautiful sand beach and the place offers a lot of different activities for the visitors ranging from basking in the sun, boating, fishing, camping etc. It serves as a perfect spot for all the nature lovers and for those who want to relieve themselves from the hectic city life. How to Reach :

Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati is considered to be the most convenient airport for travelling to Meghalaya. It is located at a distance of about 153km from the district head-quarter, Nongstoin, which is the closest town to the river island. Besides this, another minor airport is located at Umroi and is about 119km from Nongstoin.

Guwahati Railway Station is the most convenient railway station for travelling to Meghalaya. It is located at a distance of about 184 km from the district head-quarter, Nongstoin, the closest town to the river island.

Public taxis are available from Nongstoin which is about 15 km from Nongkhnum River Island.
