District Administration observed World Tourism Day Nongstoin, Sept.27,2007: Along with the rest of the world, the World Tourism Day organized by the District Administration on the the theme "Tourism open doors for women" was observed today at Nongstoin West Khasi Hills District in a meeting held at TRYSEM Hall where the Parliamentary Secretary of Social Welfare Mr.JA.Lyngdoh MLA was the chief guest. The meeting was presided over by the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District Nongstoi Mr.F.Kharlyngdoh-IAS , others who spoke on the occasion were the Superintendent of Police Mr.M Kharkrang and Mr D.M.Wahlang MCS. Earlier, the observation include the workshop where Head men, Sordars, Self Help Group, Women Group, Taxi owners and drivers association and Wine Dealers Association participated which the resource person from the Institute of Hotel Management Catering Technology and Applied Nutrition Shillong imparted the basic training on capacity building for Tourism providers. Later, Certificates were also distributed to all participants who had attended the workshop from 26 to 27 September. [Source: DPRO]	Seminar on Folklore Organized A two day Seminar on "Ki Phawar and Folklore of the Lyngngam, the Nongtrai and the Muliang", orgnized by the Directorate of Arts and Culture Shillong was held on June 28 2007 at TRYSEM Hall Nongstoin in which the Deputy Commissioner of the West Khasi Hills District Mr.F.Kharlyngdoh IAS was the Chief Guest. Besides the Director of Arts and Culture Smt. D.Syiem MCS, the Seminar was also attended by the acting Syiem of Nongstoin Mr.E.P.Syiem, Resource Persons, Teachers and Students. Nongstoin Aug,20,2008 : The District Administration, West Khasi Hills District, Nongstoin today observed the Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas - Renewable Energy Day at Deputy Commissioner's Office Complex here. The programmed kicked off at 8.30 am with a rally on the theme *Renewable Energy* which started from Nongstoin Market towards D.C.'s Office via Nanbah and Post office and participated by the students from different schools of Nongstoin Area carrying along with placards and banners. Speaking as the chief guest on the occasion, the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Dr. A.Pariong underlined that energy is very important in a day today life of man. He therefore, urged upon the people to also conserve the environment while using the energy and adding that its surroundings need to be preserved and protect for the future generation. He also appealed to the leaders of Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to maintain the peace and harmony in the District. The welcome address was delivered by the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District Shri. M.R.Synrem-IAS whereas the vote of thanks was proposed by the Project Director of DRDA-Nongstoin Shri. W.Nongsiej-MCS. Other highlights of the day included Drawing and Painting competitions, Extempore speech on various topics related to Energy, Group Dance, Fancy Dress competition, Group song and prizes distribution. [Source: DPRO]	Mawthadraishan CIC Inaugurated by the CM. Nongstoin Dec.17,2007: The Mawthadraishan Community & Information Center (CIC) was inaugurated by Dr. D.D. Lapang the honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya on the 11th December 2007 at the newly constructed BDO Office Mawthadraishan West Khasi Hills district Meghalaya.
Sensitization Workshop On TSC Held in Nongstoin A one day Sensitization Workshop on the Total Sanitation Campaign (TSC) organised by the District Water and Sanitation Mission (DWSM) of the PHE Department was held on the 7th June 2007 in TRYSEM Hall Nongstoin whereby the Chairman of the Meghalaya Tourism Developement Corporation (MTDC) Mr.BL Nongum MLA, was the Chief Guest.The Workshop was participated by the Officers from the different Department including the MLA of the Nongstoin Constituency, the MDC of Mawthengkut, Rambrai and of Nongstoin. The meeting was presided over the the Deputy Commissioner of West Khasi Hills District Mr.F.Kharlyngdoh-IAS who is also the Chairman of the Distict Water Sanitation Committee. [Source: DPRO]	P.R.Kyndiah Inaugurates Health Mela At Rangthong A three day Health Mela under the aegis of the National Rural Health Mission, organised by the office of the DMHO West Khasi Hills,Nongstoin was held at Rangthong PHC Mawkyrwat Sub-Divisin on the 29th May 2007 whereby the Union Minister for Tribal Affairs Mr.P.R.Kyndiah was the chief guest at the inaugural function. Other dignitaries who present at the function were the Speaker of the Meghalaya Legislative Assembly Mr.M.M.Danggo, the Local MDC of the Langrin Constituency Mr.M.Nongrem, the DC of West Khasi Hills District Mr.F.Kharlyngdoh IAS, the Mission Director of Rural Health Mission Dr.R.H.Pariat andthe SDO(Civil) of Mawkyrwat Civil Sub-Division. [Source: DPRO]	50 KW Biomass Gasifier Plant Inaugurated. Nongstoin April 23,2008: The 50KW Biomass Gasifier Plant (Renewable Energy) of Meghalaya Non- Conventional & Rural Energy Development Agency at Nongkaniang village, the first of its kind in West Khasi Hills District was inaugurated today by the MDC of Nongstoin Mr. N. Nongdkhar who is also the Deputy Chairman of Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council. This project which was constructed at the cost of Rs.24.17 lakhs will be benefited to around 80 houses in the village informed the Director of Meghalaya Non-Conventional & Rural Energy Development Agency Mr. R.C.Agrawal and added that the cost of of machine and equipments is Rs. 13.85 lakhs, Transmission and distribution lines is Rs. 5.86 lakhs and civil works is estimated at Rs 4.46 lakhs. With the availability of modern technology, Mr Agrawal underlined that other source of energy such as Sun and Wind energy can be easily grabbed for the purpose of the society but for this it requires the cooperation of the community. He also told that revenue at a nominal rate will have to be generated from the beneficiaries, in which 50% of the revenue to be collected will be given to the Village Committee of maintenance of the equipments. Speaking at the inaugural function, Mr.Nongdkhar appealed to the villagers to take care of this project as it is their property and is for their benefit as well. He also expressed his gratitude to the authority of the MNREDA for selecting Nongkaniang village as the location of the project. He also urge upon the people if they cut the trees of using in this Biomass then they should also plant new one by multiplying the numbers so that the future generation will not suffer. [Source: DPRO]
